Safe Operation of the Order Picker Truck

About this training

This hands-on half-day training teaches participants how to work safely and efficiently with the order picker truck (OPT). The focus is on practical experience, with 2.5 hours of active driving time, including high-level picking from warehouse racks. The training concludes with the official BLOM safety exam.

 

Who it's for

This training is intended for both beginner and experienced warehouse, logistics, and shipping staff who use or plan to use an order picker truck (man-up). The minimum age for participation is 16. Candidates under 18 may only work under qualified supervision after obtaining the certificate, in accordance with Dutch health and safety legislation.

 

Entry requirements

No specific prior education is required. The training is available to both Dutch- and English-speaking participants.

 

Duration of the training

The training takes place in one half-day session and is available in two time slots:
• Morning session: 07:00 – 10:30
• Afternoon session: 11:00 – 14:30
The program combines theory and practice, with a strong focus on hands-on training.

 

Course materials

The training includes both a theoretical and a practical component.

 

Theory topics:
• Occupational health & safety regulations
• Load stability and weight distribution
• Machine-specific features
• Maintenance, damage prevention, and cost awareness

Practical topics:
• Daily safety checks
• Operating in warehouse racks
• Battery replacement
• Induction/rail system use
• Risk awareness and safe behavior

 

Certification

Upon successfully completing both theory and practice components, participants receive an official BLOM order picker truck certificate. The certificate is valid for 5 years.

 

Extra

The electric pallet truck and stacker are also covered in this training. If the participant meets the requirements for these machines, additional certificates are provided at no extra cost.
