Special Cargo expands into Belgium with acquisition of MT Consulting

Special Cargo College continues to grow! We are expanding into Belgium with the acquisition of MT Consulting, a well-known Belgian name in aviation security. For us, this is a logical step in our growth ambitions. And an opportunity to further expand our services to Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France. For MT Consulting this means a broadening of the training offer to the field of transport of dangerous goods.

About MT Consulting

MT Consulting is a specialized trainer in civil aviation security. Over the years, services have expanded into quality areas, such as Customs regulations and GDP quality programs. These certifications are crucial for companies in the industry, so MT Consulting increasingly began assisting companies with quality services and compliance programs as well.

A collaboration based on trust

The company was founded 15 years ago by Michaël Thielemans – hence the name “MT Consulting.” His approach? Honest advice and really listening to the client. “Sometimes the best solution was that we didn’t sell anything, and just gave advice. That creates trust, and has earned us a strong reputation.”

Five years ago, Michaël met our managing director Erik den Dikken. “We immediately had a click,” Erik explains. “Same approach, same values. That soon led to a collaboration in which MT Consulting started offering training courses through our online platform.”

What will change?

Now this partnership is being transformed into a full integration into our training branch Special Cargo College. But in fact, everything that makes MT Consulting unique simply remains. The training locations in Brussels and Liège, the trainers, and of course Michaël and his colleague Enzo, who are both joining us. Erik: “And because of the takeover, our clients can now go to the Netherlands AND Belgium for training, guidance and consultancy!”

For now, the name MT Consulting will remain for a while, but from April 1, 2025, it will disappear and the company will merge completely into Special Cargo College.

“Customers don’t need to worry: we will simply continue to provide the same service. And soon we hope, with the expertise of our colleagues at College, to even start training in transporting dangerous goods,”

Michaël, Business Unit Manager for Belgium

Responding to changes in laws and regulations

To properly guide our clients in their compliance, we and MT Consulting ensure that we are always up to date with the latest laws and regulations and any changes in the law. Many of the courses we offer are also required by legislation. What is current is that a change is imminent in European legislation: as of 2026, the licensed transporter – like the known consignor and the licensed agent – must also be certified. But the implementation in the Netherlands and in Belgium will show differences in emphasis, Erik says. “With our joint expertise and in-depth knowledge of the regulations, we will soon be able to guide these companies through this process perfectly. A great example of our joining forces!”

Personal approach

This is also a logical step on a personal level. Both companies share the same vision of cooperation and commitment, both internally and towards customers. As a family business, Special Cargo values a personal approach and long-term relationships, something that Michaël fully recognizes. And who knows, maybe one day his children will join the company themselves.

Future plans

For Special Cargo College, the acquisition is not only a step toward Belgium, but also a springboard for further expansion. “We already have a French-speaking office in Liège. That helps tremendously with our plans to grow further in France,” says Erik. In short, this is a logical and exciting next step for both Special Cargo and MT Consulting. We are joining forces and laying a solid foundation for an international future!
