Global trade has changed. Sanctions regimes are expanding, export controls are tightening and geopolitical tensions increasingly affect day-to-day logistics operations. This means that trade compliance is no longer optional – it is a critical part of doing business in the logistics and air cargo sector. To support this growing need for awareness and practical knowledge, Special Cargo College offers her customers the e-learning course ‘Foundations of Trade Compliance’, developed by the German company Aithea.
Trade compliance training for logistics professionals
This English-language online course is Track 1 of a four-track learning pathway focused on trade compliance in logistics. This first track provides a clear introduction to the rules, risks and realities of trade compliance in global supply chains, with a strong focus on real-world logistics operations.
The course has been developed by Aithea GmbH, a German RegTech start-up that combines regulatory expertise with artificial intelligence to modernise compliance and risk management in daily practice. While AI is used to enhance engagement and interactivity, a final approval remains fully human-led and controlled by Aithea’s subject matter experts.
Who is this course for?
The course is designed for professionals in the logistics and air cargo sector, including:
- Operations and cargo handling teams
- Compliance and risk officers
- Managers and decision-makers

No extensive prior compliance knowledge is required, making the course suitable for both beginners and experienced professionals.
Learning by doing

Trade compliance is no longer optional – it is a critical part of doing international business
Microlearning: short modules, clear focus

- Ideal for onboarding, refreshers and annual compliance requirements
Part of a four-track learning pathway
Foundations of Trade Compliance is the first track of a four-track learning pathway focused on building trade compliance knowledge step by step. This first track creates essential awareness and understanding, forming the basis for more in-depth topics in the following tracks: Track 2: All about Goods, Track 3: Operational Compliance, and Track 4: Bonus Courses. Together, the tracks offer a structured and practical approach to trade compliance learning. Soon all tracks will be available through Special Cargo College.
Why trade compliance matters more than ever
Enforcement of trade compliance regulations is increasing worldwide. Sanctions, embargoes and export controls are no longer abstract rules – they directly affect daily logistics operations. For logistics professionals, compliance starts earlier than many realise. Correct classification of goods, using harmonized system codes and understanding routing restrictions are essential steps in preventing violations. Mistakes can lead to fines, shipment delays and serious reputational damage. This means that trade compliance is no longer limited a specialist topic; it is a shared responsibility for operational teams, managers and commercial staf. It appliesacross the entire organization.
Raising awareness
For Special Cargo’s customers, this learning pathway represents a valuable expansion of our training portfolio in air cargo and international logistics. With this training, Special Cargo College and Aithea aim to raise awareness and help professionals recognize compliance risks early, supporting safer operations and more resilient supply chains. For logistics professionals, this is not a one-off topic, but a permanent part of the job.
